These safety-critical fresh water coolers were manufactured for first-level submarine systems.
The original units were designed and manufactured by Serck Heat Transfer in Birmingham in the early 1980s. After decades of service, replacement units were manufactured by Therco Serck in Sheffield using inherited Serck intellectual property.
The scope included nickel aluminium bronze castings and tubesheets, copper-nickel shells and baffles, together with extensive NDT and consideration of applicable NES, DGS and other defence standards.
